Glen and Lena Hanson Scholarship

About Glen & Lena Hanson

Glen and Lena Hanson moved to Medicine Lodge in 1951 to open a dry goods store, Hanson’s, on South Main Street. The store sold ready-to-wear, accessories, shoes, piece goods (fabric) and notions in a time when every store front on Main Street was filled and businesses were bustling with local customers. After Hanson’s closed in 1963, Glen worked at the Post Office and Lena became the baker for the new school lunch program at what was then known as the Intermediate School. The Hansons enjoyed volunteering in the community and helped with many projects for the good of Medicine Lodge, including service with Lions Club (where Glen was President) and the Methodist Church, plus myriad youth activities as they raised four children who graduated from Medicine Lodge High School and went on to attain college degrees. Glen and Lena encouraged their children to pursue whatever they chose to do, noting that as long as you are happy with your work, can pay your bills, and take time to help others, you will be fine.
