DR. DEAN AND JEAN STUCKY MEDICAL AND NURSING SCHOLARSHIP
2026 GUIDELINES
Deadline for submission: March 1st
About Dean and Jean
Dean was born and raised on a farm near Moundridge, Kansas, and attended high school in Moundridge. He graduated from Bethel College, Newton, Kansas, and Kansas University School of Medicine in 1960. Before finishing his intern-ship in 1961, he and Dr. Larry Ball came to Medicine Lodge to investigate the possibility of starting a medical practice. As he and Larry were being taken around town to meet various people, Dean met again a college roommate, Johnny Johnson, whom he had not seen for several years. This friendship renewal seemed to apply a special interest for a future Medicine Lodge residence. The Ball and Stucky Medical Office opened on July 1st, 1961.
Jean was born in Wichita and grew up on a dairy farm. After graduating from high school, she entered and graduated from Wesley School of Nursing in 1956. After working at Wesley Hospital in Wichita and spending one year in Phoenix, Arizona, where she attended a Bible College and worked at Maricopa County Hospital, she returned to Wichita and began attending Friends University, where she received a BA degree in 1962. Ten days later, she and Dean were married in Wichita on June 16th, and settled in Medicine Lodge where the medical practice continued.
They have three children, Robbie Leigh, 1963; Renee Christine, 1964; Russell Dean, 1967. The family attends and is a member of the United Methodist Church of Medicine Lodge. "Leisure time" activity for Dean and Jean include playing tennis and 'midnight jogging' at the high school track - when the legs are not too tired. These activities hopefully help keep them ready for the annual skiing trip which we really enjoy as a family.
The Stucky's consider Medicine Lodge their home and will always cherish the friendships of all these years.
