YMAD Council completes first service project of 2024!

Posted Sunday March 10, 2024

Due to a generous grant from Walmart-Pratt and the South Central Community Foundation (SCCF) Grant Committee, YMAD was able to purchase all the supplies to host a community service event and create all of the birthday bags.

These bags will be provided to local Food Banks as a way for those in poverty to be able to celebrate their kids or their own birthdays when times are tough. "Looking back on my own childhood, I was lucky enough to be able to celebrate every one of my birthdays with my family going out to eat and getting cupcakes to celebrate while not every kid is that lucky," said Hannah Brummer, YMAD Program Manager, "Having these birthday bags available will allow those families that do not have the resources or the money to spend on their kids’ birthdays or their own birthdays the chance to celebrate, bringing a little joy and excitement to their lives."

This project also allowed for the YMAD program to expand, leaving an impact on their hometowns and building a better sense of community within the group all while giving back.

ABOUT YMAD:

The YMAD Council was established in 2003 by a grant from the Kaufmann Foundation and is now sponsored by SCCF. The Foundation recognizes the importance of youth philanthropy and the lasting impact that these youth can make on their various communities. With expanding the YMAD Council to include a community service event and potentially more in the future, SCCF hopes that the program will grow and expand to include more involvement, a better understanding of the grant process, and the importance of nonprofits.
