Purpose of the Scholarship
Established by Jason’s family and friends to honor his memory and to continue his goal of helping others achieve and succeed.
About Jason
Jason Befort was born on October 31, 1974 and grew up in Pratt, Kansas. After graduating from Pratt High School in 1993, he pursued a degree in secondary education at Kansas State University. Upon graduation, he taught and coached in Augusta, Kansas. Jason believed anything could be done with enough dedication and determination. His life was an example of this philosophy and he encouraged others by his example. Jason believed in the value of education and was pursuing a Master’s degree in sports administration at the time of his tragic death. He had a heart for people, a vision for the future, and was committed to his goals.
Scholarship Requirements:
- Must be a senior attending Mulvane High School, Pratt High School, or Skyline High School.
- Must be planning to attend a community college, four-year college, or four-year university located in the state of Kansas.
- Must have at least a 3.3 Grade Point Average or SAT/ACT score of at least 21.
- Two reference letters
- No financial need is required.
South Central Community Foundation Requirements:
1. Must upload two letters of recommendation.
A. School teacher (any subject)
B. Community member (someone who knows you outside of school)
2. Must upload ACT/SAT scores.
3. Must upload high school transcript or if a current college student must upload college transcript.
Failure to complete any of these requirements will disqualify your application from consideration.
